Project overview
The main mechanic being turn taking, there are lots of other design elements to a good encounter in a classic RPG, for instance I replicated the camera placements from Pokémon, encounter animations that are chosen randomly, UI and mechanics inspired by dragon quest with the main being spells and tactics.
Mechanics
A battle manger
This is responsible for getting the correct character to move based on all entities speed stat and to send the reference of selected entity into the UI chain. It is the box that is unpacked that makes references related to the encounter. ​
The UI chains
This will handle things like feedback and inputs to and from the player on information to display e.g. an indication as to which enemy is chosen to attack or the description that is shown when hovering over a spell.
Camera Set up
These would be spawned by the battle manager and be used by calling upon the managers reference e.g. player 2 attacks enemy < switch to random battle camera < switch back once turn has ended. ​
